After searching through some previous blog post I came across a post from Cassandra with a song from 2Pac. I listen to hip-hop and rap but Its not one of my favorite genres so I thought it would be a great topic for this week. The song I wanted to choose was California Love because it is such an easy song to listen to. I also think Im drawn more to 2pac because he has such a larger than life reputation and his story and legacy has so much history. I would have to agree with Cassandra when she says that it is hard to narrow down a favorite genre and especially a favorite song by a specific artist. I think that 2Pac is so influential because he was a very passionate person and he carried such a deep meaning. I think he was really passionate about his community and for the human race in general. In many of his songs he can be quoted saying things that encourage positive things for his community. 2pac was not only an influence in his community but also in the world of music. He was a larger than life icon in the rap industry and competed for the top spot agains other huge music icons such as Notorious BIG which turned out to be a very controversial theme in hip hop music in the 1990s. I think some huge aspects of the song California Love that really brings me in is the message. Its all about loving where you’re from and in this case loving California. From the party life, the weather and the girls this song just makes you want to be in the sun and having fun. I think 2Pac was all about partying in the great state of California and living your life to the fullest.

  1. California Love is a great song, it was one of 2pac’s most popular and it’s pretty easy to see why. I read online that he really wanted to use this song to move his music away from violence to help relieve hip hop of it’s violent nature, “I want it to be about money.” He told Rolling Stone. 2Pac is definitely an inspirational rapper, I wish there were more like him today.

  2. This is a great post Chase! I am happy to see that someone else shares the same taste in music and actually blogged about it as well. There is no doubt about it that Tupac Shakur was a pioneer of the rap industry, and he set the standard for so many rap artists to come. He was a poet who really understood the deeper aspects of life. We can all look back on his life and admire his glory.
